La Carrière is located in the region
traditionally known
as Périgord Noir (Black Périgord) named for the dark foliage
of the green oaks & other majestic trees which grace this area.
Périgord Noir is often referred to as the 'golden triangle'
marked by the Vézère river, the 'royal road' of prehistory
and the Dordogne river lined with majestic châteaux.
Along with the numerous historic, medieval towns,
imposing châteaux, and prehistoric caves, Périgord Noir
is also a gastronomic paradise with its world-renowned
foie gras, cêpes, & truffles - the black diamonds of Périgord.

Castelnaud - this enormous castle rises out of the medieval village above the Dordogne, across from Beynac. The two castles were rivals in the Hundred Years War. |
Roque Saint-Christophe - on the banks of the river Vézère this cave fort is over five storeys high and 500metres in length providing shelter for Cro-Magnon man through to the middle ages. |
